Videomedia is the developer of the V-LAN® Universal Control Network, the industry standard for video device control. The V-LAN network allows a computer application to control and synchronize all connected VTRs, switchers, DATs, mixers and DVEs. Videomedia supports the V-LAN network with powerful video editing software " OZ-PCE ", as well as a complete line of V-LAN compatible hardware. Now, Videomedia offers more solutions than ever with the complete VIP-Suite of Broadcast Automation software as well as the latest in video server technologies with M-JPEG and MPEG-2 video compression standards in our 2XS line of DDR's and Servers.

V-LAN DESCRIPTION

Downloadable Device Drivers
The V-LAN protocol makes all video devices “look the same” to the controlling application through the use of device-specific software downloadable drivers. Video editing and broadcast technology is continuously expanding; as new video devices are introduced, V-LAN drivers for those devices become available to ensure compatibility with existing video equipment on the network. The updated set of V-LAN device drivers is available free of charge to registered V-LAN users 24 hours a day via our BBS system or Internet home page.

Components of the V-LAN Network
A complete V-LAN Network contains a controlling computer, a V-LAN compatible transmitter, and one V-LAN compatible receiver for each of up to 31 devices to be controlled. The transmitter is connected to the computer serial port and to the multiple receivers. It takes commands generated by the computer and translates and distributes them to the appropriate receivers. V-LAN receivers are connected to the “remote” connector of each video device to be controlled. Each V-LAN receiver on the network simultaneously receives controlling signals from the V-LAN transmitter, providing frame-accurate control and synchronization of all devices on the network.

V-LAN Provides Flexibility
Rarely do two systems have exactly the same control requirements. For this reason, V-LAN compatible transmitters and receivers are provided in a variety of configurations. Whether it’s a unit that rests conveniently on your desktop, a board that plugs directly into the ISA bus slot on your computer, a professional rack-mountable chassis that contains multiple V-LAN modules, or a unit that slides into the 5¼” drive bay of an IBM compatible computer, V-LAN makes device control easy, reliable, and expandable.
